A New Cutometer-like Device for Invivo Measurements of Human Vaginal Wall Biomechanical Properties
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Hypothesis / aims of study Human vaginal wall biomechanical properties have been tested ex vivo in frozen/thawed tissue samples (1), and more recently in fresh anterior vaginal wall samples (2). In vivo testing of human tissues with a cutometer-like device originated with the study of wound healing in plastic surgery. Application to the human vaginal wall is under investigation with inconclusive reports so far. We report on the validation steps for a new prototype designed for office testing.

Biomechanical properties and associated collagen composition in vaginal tissue of women with pelvic organ prolapse.
PURPOSE The pelvic tissue of women with pelvic organ prolapse is stiffer than that of controls but there are scant data on the collagen composition that corresponds to these mechanical properties. We evaluated human vaginal wall stiffness using the novel scanning haptic microscope and correlated these measurements to collagen expression in women with and without pelvic organ prolapse. In this s...
متن کاملOvine multiparity is associated with diminished vaginal muscularis, increased elastic fibres and vaginal wall weakness: implication for pelvic organ prolapse
Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) is a major clinical burden affecting 25% of women, with vaginal delivery a major contributing factor. We hypothesised that increasing parity weakens the vagina by altering the extracellular matrix proteins and smooth muscle thereby leading to POP vulnerability. We used a modified POP-quantification (POP-Q) system and a novel pressure sensor to measure vaginal wall we...
متن کاملEvaluation of tendon healing using fibroblast like synoviocytes in rabbits: A biomechanical study
Tendon never restores the complete biological and mechanical properties after healing. Several techniques are available for tissue-engineered biological augmentation for tendon healing like stem cells. Recently, synovium has been investigated as a source of cells for tissue engineering. In the present study, we investigated potentials of fibroblast like synoviocytes (FLSs) in tendon healing. Si...
متن کاملCalendula extract: effects on mechanical parameters of human skin.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of newly formulated topical cream of Calendula officinalis extract on the mechanical parameters of the skin by using the cutometer. The Cutometer 580 MPA is a device that is designed to measure the mechanical properties of the skin in response to the application of negative pressure. This non-invasive method can be useful for objective and quant...
متن کاملRegional Variation in Tissue Composition and Biomechanical Properties of Postmenopausal Ovine and Human Vagina
OBJECTIVE There are increasing numbers of reports describing human vaginal tissue composition in women with and without pelvic organ prolapse with conflicting results. The aim of this study was to compare ovine and human posterior vaginal tissue in terms of histological and biochemical tissue composition and to assess passive biomechanical properties of ovine vagina to further characterise this...
